Waltham-on-the-Wolds CE Primary School – Our Pilgrimmage
We received the Carving on Wednesday 21st September. Our oldest children (from Sycamore Class) travelled by coach to St Mary’s Church in Chadwell to meet some of the children of Scalford CE Primary (Scalford thought we had walked there because the coach couldn’t get all the way to the Church so we walked the final part!)
We held a service together when the Carving was symbolically passed over to us.
At school the next day we held an assembly with the whole school before our Sycamore Class prepared for their pilgrimmage to Croxton Kerrial on the next stage of the Carving’s journey around the Diocese. Friday was a glorious day and we waved the Sycamores off on their round trip of over ten miles, walking all the way. They took the beautiful off-road walks through the Leicestershire Wolds between Waltham and Croxton.
They arrived at Croxton around mid-day and held a short ceremony to hand the Carving over and then shared lunch with the children of Croxton before they set off on the return leg of their journey. Footsore (especially those whose shoes were not as well-fitting as first they had seemed!) they returned to school right at the end of the day, with a sense of satisfaction at a duty well-done.
